True story. One night I’m standing in the wine aisle of the grocery store. I’m barely in a vertical position on account of the sleep deprivation from my husband’s severe financial abuse. It’s the height of the foreclosure notices, discontinued health insurance, and more.

Divorce is fun like that.

I can’t think straight let alone make a decision on which bottle of cabernet.

Suddenly, I realize if I’m going to drink, I better drink with the saints.

My life is blowing up. I need all the help I can get. I can’t just choose any bottle of red. I have to go for a nice St. Francis or Chateau Ste. Michelle. No harm in that.

I often joke about this story but St. Francis got me through his fair share of weekends. No one escapes pain in this life. The best we can do is meet it until we find ourselves on the other side.

5 Things I learned from the worst experience in my life:

You have to protect yourself

You need to protect yourself so you grow rather than change.
