I thought living with a narcissist was the tough part. I thought leaving was the easy part. It reminds me of something someone once told me about grief.

“It’s going to get worse before it gets better.”

The same could be said for leaving a narcissist.

At least for those of us who were unprepared. Those who had no idea what we were walking into while we were walking away.

7 Reasons Leaving a Narcissist Is so Hard.

Sleep deprivation

A narcissist will make the nights even darker.

I love sleep. I always have.

But soon after retaining my lawyer, my bedroom shifted from a respite to an anxiety-inducing cubicle.

I would spend hours trying to fall asleep.

It wasn’t uncommon to be awake until three or four in the morning. On the rare occasion, I was able to drift off, I would randomly wake up just two hours later.

Some nights I never slept at all.

Why? That leads me to the second reason it’s so hard to leave a narcissist…fear.
