A wise man I know who is a jeweler and who gave me the best possible value for my rings because I didn’t have food money for my children once I told my husband I was divorcing him. “Jewelry has valuable memories but sometimes it no longer does and it comes time to part with it and that’s okay.. To let it go. And new immeasurably valuable pieces will replace it.” I took a picture of my rings and cried while I hocked them but that and other advice he gave me that day never left me. I’m actually writing a piece now not about my rings because I did that long ago but about another piece of fatherly advice that jeweler gave me about men. In essence, he was trying to tell me my rings no longer had value. I was holding onto something I had already lost. But I feel your pain because they meant something to me. I believed in those vows.
