Are You Happy You Got Divorced?

If someone told me I would be happier divorced I may not have believed them. Certainly not while I was bawling my eyes out and attempting to make deals with God. When I still considered a man to be the love of my life. I definitely, no longer ascribe to that.

I ask people if they are happy they got divorced?

The answer is typically a yes. However, this study of a sampling of individuals reports people are not necessarily happier after a marriage ends. They simply have different types of stressors. It also indicates some couples who weather the trouble report being happy years later.

I was not prepared for the feelings of divorce.

I certainly wouldn’t like to revisit the experience. It forced me to make significant life changes personally and professionally. I’m a marketer, journalist, and former business columnist, but in 2014 I became a divorce and relationship columnist. I concentrate on making something good come from the bad.

This study gave me pause since a lot of people are happy post-divorce.

And many articles will attest to this. There’s liberation and freedom in walking away from the eternal cycle of what is broken. I think the disconnect…
