Hi Kimberly, Yes, I should have stopped trusting my husband the moment the problems started. That's when he wanted control of the bills back and started hiding money. At the very least, if I was trusting then I should have been self-protective and watched out for my best interest just in case because people will tell you that divorcing someone will shock you. I married a Catholic school boy who robbed me blind. I have written several financial articles if you want to read them about what you should begin doing when you have marital problems. You should make sure to run your credit annually and open a credit card and bank account in your name only so that you have a history of credit and some access to cash especially if you're a stay-at-home mother. You should check your mortgage to make sure both your names are on it and that no money has been borrowed against the mortgage since they sometimes hide money that way by taking out a loan on the mortgage leaving a higher mortgage with the money they took out hidden elsewhere.
