I agree with everything you have said! I have spent more than a decade in the counseling and research of narcissism and for a long time I stopped writing about the topic because it was maddening to read articles by people who don’t know what they are talking about. Narcissism is a diagnosis by a mental health professional and I always say it’s so complex that all these years later after counseling and research and my then husband’s diagnosis by a psychologist there are aspects I still don’t feel qualified to write about so I don’t. As journalists, we were taught you have a responsibility to the reader. You can’t write about topics you’re not qualified to write about. But none of these people every wrote for print publications or online publications with editors. They are telling there story on a general platform. I’m passionate about the human interest essay. I believe people should tell their stories but telling your truth is different than advising people or guessing you were with a narcissist. It’s irresponsible because people tend to believe what they read.
