I didn't benefit from funny accounting because he was honest before the marriage began to suffer. I was involved in every financial aspect until then. I naively didn't understand why he suddenly wanted to start paying our home, business, and rental property bills. He was doing so to hide money but I trusted him and that's where I made my mistake. In the years our marriage was struggling he started manipulating the numbers but I didn't micromanage by going over every detail because we had always done everything legally before that. Men and women get unfair outcomes in divorce because bad behavior isn't gender specific. Honest people go into divorce being honest and dishonest people being dishonest. I agree that women should have a retirement plan and stay-at-home mothers should receive some form of joint cash from the marriage over the years to save towards it.
