I Married an Insecure Man

How insecurity can ruin a relationship

I used to throw an annual breakfast fundraiser for a sick child in our community. That evening we would usually go out to dinner at a local restaurant.

Women who attended would stop by our table to say hello.

They would typically praise the event. It could range from the amount of money raised, the inspiration, or the fun despite a few tears.

My husband never responded to their positive remarks.

Worse, I could witness discomfort in his body language.

It was the first time I realized his inability to compliment me.

But what was more disturbing was his reluctance to see me shine.

There wasn’t any pride in the work I was doing. He didn’t ask me about the morning, talk to our children about getting involved in the community, or caring about one of their friends.

He practically ignored me.

The funny thing is I regularly sang his praises.

I was proud of him, who he was, his achievements, and more.

I would often quote things he said to our kids. Or tell them he was the funniest guy I knew, the best salesman and that he had an incredible work ethic, among other…
