I think in the long run Tony is working to ensure all writers get paid more. Unfortunately, in the short term it's going to go the writers who generate more views so they can generate more revenue first. I used to drive much more external views a few years ago but I stopped spending so much time posting because there wasn't any income benefit. I feel positive about the changes but recently lowered views are discouraging. As for the ads, I remember when Medium first started even though I didn't start to write here until 2017 I followed the progress because initially they invited journalists to write and Ev Williams original model I believe was non-advertising based.
