I’m a deeply spiritual person and that is why I leaned towards kindness despite any intolerable behavior. I also come from an incredibly generous family. I am a giver. Just like you. I have learned it’s a wonderful thing to give but not every person is worth giving to. I will frame it the way I once learned with my uncle the priest. I should write about this and never have. We left his rectory and he turned someone on the street down. My uncle was the average man who became a priest. He didn’t preach unless he was at the altar. He just lived by example forever helping everyone who approached him. I was shocked to see him turn someone away. I said to him why didn’t you help that man you have helped everyone I have ever seen in my entire life. I will never forget what he said to me. Especially since he had helped everyone. He told me he had tried to help that man many times but all efforts had failed and the money and resources he had given had continued to be used for other things. And then he said sometimes you have to realize there are people you can’t help and turn your attention to those you can.
