Interesting because my boys refuse to use the word narcissist they call their dad an asshole. I only want them to grasp that he is an actual narcissist so they are educated on the danger. And not every narcissist experiences childhood abuse. My husband had a mother that was a narcissist and he never learned the early childhood developmental stage of empathy. No trauma in his childhood just missed a huge part of emotional development. It’s interesting because I wrote something once and one of the mental health pubs on medium wouldn’t accept it because they said they wanted to be positive about mental health. As you point out narcissistic personality disorder falls under the category of mental health disorders rather than mental illness though it seems to be tomato/tomato. But regardless, there is a distinguishing factor because narcissists are not only abusive they can be extremely dangerous so it’s not attacking a mental illness. It’s elevating a personality disorder that can bring harm to others.
