My Friend Gave Me the Best Valentine’s Day Present

My friends and I are hanging out together. The three of us are divorced. We’re worried because another friend has left some items at their marital property.

We all agree on one thing.

It’s a risk to trust an ex with your belongings.

“I wrote about this,” I say. “You guys should read “I Lost Everything I Owned, But this is what made me cry like a baby.”

I sum the article up for my two friends.

A few days later they call me.

“You have to come over to my apartment,” says one of my friends.

“I’ll come later,” I say. “I’m going out.”

“No,” she says. “You have to come now.”

I walk into her apartment.

“Okay,” I say jokingly. “There had better be a man or diamonds in here. What’s the urgency?”

They smile.

And place a gold bag in front of me.

“What is this?” I ask.

“Open it,” they say.

I begin to unravel the mystery. I grab the first item out of the bag. It’s a candy conversation hearts banner. The…
