One other thought. The amount of followers doesn’t necessarily mean something. I was chatting with a VP of a major publishing house. I told him I bet they weren’t seeing the book sales to match the majority of online influencers they were giving deals to. He said I was right and asked me how I knew that. I said I’m a marketer, a writer, and I did PR. It’s not necessarily the amount of followers you have. It’s the amount of passionate brand loyalists that follow you. Some followers could be no longer on the platform, some could have moved on from the hobby or topic being written about and are no longer interested, some, some could read it only periodically, etc. it’s the amount of current followers that passionately follow an influencer. The follower count can’t tell us that. Especially if the person has been online for years and many followers accumulated over time. This is another reason when I responded in another comment on this thread that I believe we need to be writer’s writers and support each other. Not block someone or hold ourselves in higher regard because of follower accounts. You’re only as good as your current amount of readers not an accumulated number.
