This Stay-at-Home Mom Isn’t Re-Entering the Workforce
I’m simply changing careers
“My mommy is the room mom.”
“My mommy is in charge of the fundraiser.”
“My mommy is rescuing puppies.”
“My mommy is organizing the field trip.”
“My mommy is raising money for Cystic Fibrosis.”
Society didn’t realize what I was doing. My children did. It’s a career. We know this because if we didn’t do it, we would have to hire a nanny to do so.
And yes, being a caregiver is a career.
It’s an important one.
We entrust those we love to caregivers. I think that’s enough said. I think that should elevate the value of an undervalued profession. Not to mention, these individuals take care of our most vulnerable assets.
I don’t feel the need to explain myself or my choices but I will.
Losing your mom in your 20s shapes you.
It crystalizes time. You don’t peruse the world the way you once did. Instead, you walk the mall and fight tears as a mother-daughter duo giggle. A lump fills your throat when an older woman counsels you about which produce to select in the grocery store.
